The Grande Synagogue de Levallois is more than just a place of worship. It is a cultural and community center. For about fifteen years, the community had wished for a place like this. The Grande Synagogue de Levallois finally opened its doors in September 2022.
The Grande Synagogue de Levallois construction cost about 12 million euros. The building’s design draws inspiration from the Art Deco movement. Its white facade is now a distinctive feature of Levallois-Perret’s architecture.
Inside the Grande Synagogue de Levallois, you will find a main sanctuary that can accommodate 400 people. The building also includes a mikveh. This is a ritual bath. There is also a dance hall that opens onto a patio. A large reception hall on the third floor hosts cultural and religious events. The top floor features a rooftop area and multipurpose rooms.
The new center is officially named after Anna and Simon Drahi. They are the grandparents of Patrick Drahi. He was the project’s primary benefactor. Antoine Delaire designed the building. He collaborated with Jocelyn and Julie Dahan on the interiors.
The Grande Synagogue de Levallois also offers various services and cultural activities for the local community. These include a library and a coworking space. The Talmud Torah provides religious education for children.
The Association Culturelle et Cultuelle Israélite de Levallois or ACCIL was founded in 1983. By 1988, they secured land on Rue Louis Rouquier. The first community center in Levallois opened there in 1995. As the community grew, this center became too small. The new Grande Synagogue de Levallois addresses this need.
The construction of the Grande Synagogue de Levallois took less than two years. The project received support from the city of Levallois. The Département and the Région Île-de-France also contributed. The Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah supported the construction and cultural programming.
SORIBA supplied BETOMUR facade elements for the Grande Synagogue de Levallois construction. About 1000m2 of BETOMUR RTH was used. It featured a polished and sandblasted finish with stencils on the ground floor.
