Grace. It’s a word that resonates deeply within these walls. Grace Methodist Church, or GMC as it is affectionately known, began humbly in the 1960s. It started as the English congregation of Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church. This was located way over on Telok Ayer Street.

Alfred Yeo Chee Heng, a fresh graduate from London Bible College, led the congregation. He was appointed as Supply Pastor. The congregation grew. On 8 Nov 1970, it was officially constituted as Grace Methodist Church. Rev Alfred Yeo continued to pastor the church. Early services were held at Telok Blangah Chinese Methodist Church. This was adjacent to the church’s present site.

Even though the church was young and small, it was always at the forefront of promoting missions. Weekend mission trips to West Malaysia were a common feature. Grace Methodist Church also sent out missionaries to various countries. These included Thailand, Pakistan, Brazil, Turkey, Cambodia, Indonesia, and even European nations.

In 1985, Grace Methodist Church launched a building fund. They sought a suitable piece of land to build their own church. From 1992 to 1998, GMC held services at Anglo-Chinese School Independent. During this time, they secured the lease for their present site. Construction began.

5 Apr 1998 was a very eventful day. Grace Methodist Church moved into its newly built church building at Telok Blangah. The new building was dedicated on 7 Nov 1999. Grace Methodist Church has been here ever since.

Currently, Rev Dr Ian Jew Yun Shern is GMC’s Pastor-in-Charge. The church membership stands at around 1000. From its beginnings as an English congregation, Grace Methodist Church has blossomed. It stands as a testament to faith and community.

The church’s special emphasis on age-group ministry highlights its commitment. They nurture everyone to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Grace Methodist Church is more than just a building. It is a living, breathing community. It is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the boundless grace of God. It is located in District 2, in the South of Singapore. Grace Methodist Church offers services in both English and Mandarin. You can find them at 398 Telok Blangah Road.
