Why not start your spiritual discovery right here at GPDI Betheden? This is not just another church. It is a beacon of faith in Jakarta. GPDI Betheden offers solace and community.

GPDI stands for Gereja Pantekosta di Indonesia. It is one of Indonesia’s largest church organizations. The name means Pentecostal Church in Indonesia. It replaced Vereeniging De Pinkstergemeente in Nederlandsch Oost Indie. This earlier name reflected the church’s Dutch colonial roots.

GPDI has a global reach. It maintains partnerships with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. GPDI also has connections across the world.

GPDI’s history is rich. It began in 1921 with missionaries from the USA. Rev Cornelius Groesbeek and Rev Richard Van Klaveren came from Bethel Temple Seattle. They first ministered in Bali. Then they moved to Surabaya in 1922. By 1923 they were in Cepu.

The movement quickly gained followers. On June 4 1924 the government recognized the church. It was known as “De Pinkster Gemeente in Nederlansch Indie”. This recognition marked a milestone.

In 1937 the government granted further recognition. The name changed to “Pinkster in Indie Nederlansch”. During the Japanese occupation in 1942 the name changed again. It became Gereja Pantekosta di Indonesia.

Many leaders shaped GPDI. Rev H.N. Runkat was a key figure. He led the church during the Japanese occupation. Other leaders spread the church throughout Indonesia.

GPDI faced divisions. Some members formed new churches. These included GBI and GPPS. Despite these divisions GPDI continued to grow.

GPDI’s structure is well-defined. Every five years a Grand Conference is held. This conference elects the Central Assembly. The Central Assembly leads the church. It oversees various departments. These include evangelism pastoring and education.

GPDI also focuses on community. It has committees for children youth and women. GPDI extends beyond Indonesia. It has branches in the USA Australia and other countries. These international churches share GPDI’s vision.

GPDI Beth Eden in Earlwood Australia is an example. Rev Bernadus Maximillian “Max” Meiruntu leads this congregation. GPDI continues to spread its message.

Here at GPDI Betheden you are part of a global family. You are connected to a rich history. Reflect on the journey of faith that has shaped this community. Consider the dedication of its leaders and members. GPDI Betheden welcomes you.
