Forty-five souls. That’s all that lived in Gornje Cičevo in 1991. A tiny village nestled in the Republika Srpska. Imagine its quiet existence then.

Gornje Cičevo a village in the municipality of Trebinje is a place where history whispers in the wind. Its small population a testament to its secluded location. It’s a place where life moves at a different pace.

The 1991 census recorded that all 45 inhabitants were Serbs. This paints a vivid picture of community unity. It’s a stark contrast to the larger conflicts of the time.

Life in Gornje Cičevo was simple. People worked the land. They lived lives rooted in tradition. The village’s location high in the hills offered stunning views. It also provided isolation.

The village felt the tremors of war but remained largely untouched. It remained a pocket of peace amidst chaos. The villagers lived a relatively peaceful life. Their numbers however did decrease.

By 2013 only 36 people remained in Gornje Cičevo. The war years had taken their toll. The reduced numbers reflect the hardships experienced. Still the village endures.
