From its humble beginnings in 1932 the Goodway Church of God in Christ has witnessed remarkable growth. It all started when Elder Walter M Clemons answered God’s call. He rented a space on the third floor of a building at 8 West 57th Street. On January 17th 1932 the Apostolic Church of God ACOG opened its doors. For twenty years under Elder Clemons’s leadership the church flourished. It needed a larger home.

In 1952 the Apostolic Church of God relocated to 6344 South Kimbark Avenue. Elder Clemons continued his dedicated service until his passing in April 1959. After his death Elder Ahart Medders briefly took over the pastorate. A significant turning point arrived. The Universal Church of Christ led by Reverend Arthur M Brazier shared the same building.

Robert McGee Sr and Deacon Gerald Nuckolls Sr saw an opportunity. They approached Rev Brazier. They invited him to become the church’s next pastor. He agreed. His congregation joined the Apostolic Church of God. The two churches merged. This boosted membership to around 100.

Bishop Arthur M Brazier’s 48-year tenure transformed the church. Under his leadership it expanded dramatically. New buildings were constructed additions were added. The church now sits on 169000 square feet of land. In 2008 Bishop Brazier passed the torch to his son Dr Byron T Brazier.
