Goldener Wagen

From atop this gentle slope, picture the gleam of a gilded horseman. This is the Goldener Wagen vineyard, home to more than just ripening grapes. The Goldener Wagen vineyard is a key part of Saxon Wine Route. It’s nestled at the foot of the Radebeuler Spitzhaustreppe. The name “Goldener Wagen” translates to “Golden Wagon,” but it refers to the gilded statue of Augustus the Strong. Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, commissioned many of Dresden’s baroque landmarks. This vineyard is a tribute to his legacy. The Weinkeller Am Goldenen Wagen offers a unique experience. Here, over 40 Saxon wines are available for tasting. Five of these wines can even be drawn directly from the barrel. Imagine savoring the local flavors, enjoying homemade Zwiebelkuchen (onion cake) or Kesselgulasch, with the scent of grapes in the air. The vineyard offers wine tastings and guided tours. These tours delve into the history of Saxon viticulture, revealing the secrets behind their winemaking process. You can even enjoy “Bread and Wine” tastings, featuring five wines paired with artisanal breads from a Saxon Brot-Sommelier. Or perhaps embark on a “Wine Hike,” exploring the vineyard with a guided tasting amidst the vines. The Goldener Wagen is more than a vineyard.
