The first service a humble beginning. GMI Imanuel Denpasar wasn’t always the grand building before you.
In December 1995 the inaugural service took place. It wasn’t in this impressive structure. It was a much more intimate setting. The first worship happened in the home of Mr Haryanto. The congregation celebrated Christmas there. Pastor Chaidy Yunus from GMI Semarang delivered the sermon.
January to May 1996 saw prayer meetings. These were held once a month. The timing was flexible. Evangelist Simon Yang oversaw these early gatherings.
The location shifted in June 1996. GMI Imanuel Jakarta secured a strategic location. This new rental property was on Jalan Patih Jelantik number 9. Services were initially on Monday evenings at 7 30 pm. Wednesday evening prayer meetings were also held.
A turning point arrived on June 27 1996. The GMI Region II Annual Conference appointed a full-time pastor. Evangelist L Situmorang and his wife GI Lim Po Suan began their ministry. Services smoothly transitioned to Sundays at 9 am starting September 1 1996.
September 8 1996 marked a significant milestone. GMI Imanuel Denpasar was officially inaugurated as an outpost. GMI Imanuel Jakarta the mother church played a key role. The grand opening event featured prominent figures. These included the Head of Christian Guidance David Soeleman the Head of the Denpasar City MPAG. Leaders and church council members from GMI Imanuel Jakarta were also present. Many Denpasar pastors attended as well.
The church moved again in 2003. Its new home was a shop house complex. This was located on Jalan Diponegoro Denpasar. Another relocation happened in 2005. The new address was Jalan Cenigan Sari number 2A Sesetan Denpasar. This was a five-year lease.
Despite these moves worship continued. GMI Imanuel Denpasar persevered. A significant step forward occurred in 2007. Supported by GMI Imanuel Jakarta the outpost purchased a plot of land. This 500-square-meter property proved pivotal. March 4 2010 saw a cornerstone laying ceremony. Bishop Bahctiar Kwee officiated. The construction of the first phase of the church building began. The completed building was dedicated on February 27 2011 by Bishop Amat Tumino. The GMI Imanuel Denpasar you see today stands as a testament to faith perseverance and community. It’s a place of spiritual nourishment a beacon of hope.
