A bell’s deep resonance echoes through time. This resonance leads us to the Glockengießerei Bachert. For centuries, Glockengießerei Bachert has crafted bells. These bells call communities to worship. They mark celebrations and mourn losses. Let’s delve into the story of this esteemed bell foundry.

The Glockengießerei Bachert’s story began around 1770. Kaspar Bachert founded it in Dallau. He was a brass founder from Siegen. Initially, the company produced brass buttons for uniforms. The nearby linen factory supplied fabric. Later, the product range expanded. It included buckles, fire pumps, and eventually bells.

The business remained in the Bachert family for generations. Johann Adam Bachert, Kaspar’s grandson, moved to Kochendorf in 1813. In 1830, he established a foundry there. The Kochendorf factory later acquired the Dallau works in 1900. It closed the Dallau site in 1914.

In 1904, Alfred and Karl Bachert founded a bell foundry in Karlsruhe. The address was Bannwaldallee 44. Albert Bachert established another workshop in Heilbronn in 1947. He worked with his son Alfred. After the childless owners died in the 1960s, the Karlsruhe factory changed hands temporarily.

The Glockengießerei Bachert experienced significant growth. This growth occurred in the mid-20th century. There was high demand for church bells. Many bells were lost during the World Wars. They were destroyed by bombings or melted down for materials.

In 1982, the Karlsruhe foundry merged. It joined the Heidelberg bell foundry of Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling. In 2003, the company merged again. It united with Gebrüder Bachert from Bad Friedrichshall-Kochendorf. Also Metallgießerei A. Bachert from Heilbronn joined. The new entity was named Glockengießerei Bachert Karlsruhe GmbH. The company relocated to Neunkirchen in 2018. It was renamed Glockengießerei Bachert GmbH.

Glockengießerei Bachert employs artists. Currently, Annette Weiß designs the crowns of the bells. Traditionally, bells are cast on Fridays at 3 p.m. This commemorates the hour of Jesus’ death. Besides church bells, they make ship’s bells and carillons. The company also restores historical bells. Bachert bells grace many historically significant churches. They are known for their soft and fundamental tone.

The Glockengießerei Bachert has created bells for various notable locations. These include the Friedenskirche in Ansbach. Also the Stephansmünster in Breisach. As well as the Frauenkirche in Dresden. And the Christuskirche in Karlsruhe. The Glockengießerei Bachert continues to shape soundscapes. Its bells resonate with history. They connect communities across generations.

Glockengießerei Bachert is more than just a foundry. It is a keeper of traditions. It is an innovator in sound. It is a symbol of heritage. The Glockengießerei Bachert stands as a testament. It proves the enduring power of craftsmanship. Its bells will resonate for centuries.
