“Dazzling!” you might exclaim, beholding this structure. This is the Snow Globe in Shanghai. It’s not just a sculpture. It is a public space meant to spark joy and interaction.

The Snow Globe was conceived as a centerpiece for Shanghai Xintiandi’s Christmas campaign in 2017. It also took part in the festival Lumières Shanghai 2017. The goal was to create a space that people could experience. It was designed to draw customers in and make Christmas feel even more special.

Instead of a typical Christmas tree, the designers 100architects wanted something immersive. Their idea was to create a “space” instead of an “object”. They wanted something that people could enter. People should be surrounded by it, becoming part of the story.

Thus, the giant Snow Globe was born. It is a 12-meter diameter geodesic dome. The structure consists of stainless steel. Transparent acrylic panels cover it. This gives the feeling of being inside a glass snow globe.

The base is three meters tall. It includes two staircases. These stairs lead to the globe’s interior on the second floor. There is also a playful ball pit. Visitors can land there by sliding down a spiral slide from the second floor.

Like any snow globe, this one contains a Christmas tree inside. It’s a low-poly structure finished with dichroic acrylic. This gives it a spectacular look during the day and night. During the day, the lights might be subtle. The tree itself should be interesting to look at. The dichroic acrylic is rainbow-colored and iridescent. It has a subtle mirror-like finish. The color changes as you move. The material is transparent. At night, you can see the neon flex LED lights through it. This is perfect for light shows.

The interactive lighting within the tree isn’t the only light feature. Neon flex LED lights are on every edge of the dome’s triangulated façade. This creates a spherical canvas for lighting shows.

The Snow Globe in Shanghai is more than just a pretty sight. It is a place where people come together. It is an example of how art can transform public spaces. It encourages social interaction. The Snow Globe enhances the Christmas experience. It is a landmark that brings life to the area. The Snow Globe is designed to be used. People should experience it rather than just walk by. This space invites you to be part of its narrative. Take a moment to enjoy the views. Consider sliding down or even diving into the ball pit. This Snow Globe offers an immersive experience for everyone.
