“A sanctuary and safety for each person who comes here.” Those words perfectly capture the essence of Glenview Community Church, wouldn’t you say? This house of worship, nestled in the heart of Glenview, has been a beacon of faith and community since its humble beginnings in 1897. Back then, it was known as the Congregational Church of Glenview, a small gathering in a modest house on Dewes Street. But the congregation grew, fueled by their faith and the post-war boom. They dreamt of a larger space, a true community hub. The war, however, made building materials scarce, forcing them to get creative. Imagine, if you will, Sunday services held in a tailor shop, a bowling alley, even a field house! It’s a testament to their spirit, wouldn’t you say, that their faith only deepened during those nomadic years? Finally, in 1946, their dream was realized. The Glenview Community Church, as we know it today, was built at the corner of Glenview Road and Elm Street, a symbol of resilience and enduring belief. Over the decades, the church has evolved, expanding its physical presence and its spiritual reach. But at its heart, Glenview Community Church remains a place of acceptance, a “House for ALL God’s People,” echoing the words inscribed on its very soul.
