The cornerstone whispers a story. A story of faith resilience and community. This is GKI Pondok Indah. Its story began not in grand architectural plans but in a simple act of faith. In 1972 GKI Kebayoran Baru a church in South Jakarta established a worship post. This was the seed of GKI Pondok Indah.
Early services were held in borrowed spaces. Imagine twenty people gathered in humble settings. Their devotion sparked the dream of a permanent home. A piece of land near the Joint Embassy School now the Jakarta International School was purchased. The first service at this location took place on October 8 1978.
The congregation continued to grow. They eventually secured a larger plot of land 4119.3 square meters on Jalan Sekolah Kencana IV. This is where GKI Pondok Indah stands today. The official dedication was on June 17 1988. Note the dedication date and the name change from GKI Kebayoran Selatan to GKI Pondok Indah. Both mark significant milestones in the church’s journey. It highlights how the church adapted and grew reflecting the changing neighborhood and its community.
Over the years GKI Pondok Indah expanded. A third floor was added to the building. This created more space for gatherings and meetings. A church library was also established in 2003. This addition demonstrates a dedication to theological education. It reflects a commitment to providing resources for spiritual growth.
The church also extended its reach beyond Pondok Indah. A worship post was opened in Cinere. This post eventually became GKI Cinere in 1995. This expansion showcases the church’s dedication to spreading its message of faith. It shows the desire to serve a wider community.
Today GKI Pondok Indah is a thriving congregation. It serves nearly 3000 members. Its story is not just one of bricks and mortar. It is a testament to the enduring power of faith community and service. A testament to the constant growth of a congregation and its outreach. It’s a living legacy a place of worship and a place of belonging.
