The scent of incense hangs heavy in the air. GKI Maleo Raya stands before you. Its walls whisper stories of faith and community.
This isn’t just a church. GKI Maleo Raya is a testament to perseverance. It began in December 1996. A congregation from GKI Bintaro received a remarkable opportunity. They were entrusted with the management of Gedung Gereja Immanuel. This building was a gift from PT Jaya Real Property. It was meant to serve the Christian community in Bintaro Jaya.
On January 12 1997 the first official service was held. One hundred and twenty members and supporters attended. The initial Sunday services quickly grew. They added a second service in the evening. The evening service attracted thirty-one people.
Growth continued. A Sunday school started in June 1997 with forty-nine children. Bible studies and a choir were added. The church celebrated Christmas and Easter together with other users of the building. This burgeoning community soon became the Pos PKP Bintaro Jaya.
The congregation continued to flourish. Attendance rose steadily to an average of two hundred people at the morning service. Ninety people regularly attended the evening service. This amazing growth prompted a request. The congregation asked to be upgraded to Bakal Jemaat Bintaro Jaya. After an inspection in June 1998 the Klasis Jakarta II approved the upgrade. The official ceremony took place on December 6 1998.
The growth continued. On July 16 2000 the GKI Bintaro congregation proposed elevating the status of Bakal Jemaat to a full church. After another inspection the Klasis Jakarta II agreed. On May 12 2001 GKI Bintaro Jaya became GKI Maleo Raya Bintaro Jaya Tangerang. This significant milestone marked a new chapter. It celebrated the church’s maturity and independence.
GKI Maleo Raya is more than bricks and mortar. It is a living testament to faith. It is a vibrant center of community life. It is a place where people gather for worship. It’s also a place for knitting classes. There are sewing courses line dancing and Bible studies. It is a place of fellowship and growth. A place where stories like this are told and retold.
