How about a story that begins with a humble anti-opium ministry then culminates in this magnificent structure? That’s the story of GKI Gunung Sahari. This church embodies hospitality for families and young people.
GKI Gunung Sahari started with a small act of service. It began with ministry against opium and gambling in Pasar Senen in 1937. Imagine the crowded marketplace. Envision people struggling with addiction. Then picture a small group offering hope.
The congregation grew steadily. In 1950, they built a church building at Gunung Sahari IV No 8. This location became the heart of their community. The church continued to expand establishing service posts in Cengkareng and Sunter.
GKI Gunung Sahari embraced modernity over time. It offers several on-site worship services. Some services are broadcast live. This allows wider participation. Services are held at 6 AM 8 AM 10.30 AM and 5 PM. The church actively uses its website.
Various groups support the church’s mission. The Men’s Adult Commission or KDP serves adult men aged 41-55. It aims to grow their faith hope and love. The KDP organizes prayer meetings discussions and seminars. They promote spiritual growth.
The Young Adult Community or Kodam supports members aged 31-40. Formed in 2008 Kodam focuses on faith and service. It provides fellowship and ministry opportunities for young adults. Kodam strengthens resources of young adults.
The Youth Commission has roots from 1947. Then it was known as PPMT. In 1950, they had their own worship. The commission became more organized in 1985. They see the youth as a backbone of the church.
The Children’s Commission serves children from infancy to 13 years old. They aim to instill values and character in the children. Sunday school classes teach children about God’s Word prayer and praise. Teachers guide the children.
GKI Gunung Sahari offers facilities for disabled persons. There are wheelchair-accessible parking spots and entrances. The church strives to be inclusive.
In 1998, GKI Perniagaan appointed Nur Wahyuni Kristiadji from GKI Gunung Sahari as a pastor. She became their first female pastor.
GKI Perniagaan with GKI Residen Sudirman Surabaya GKI Kebayoran Baru Jakarta and GKI Gunung Sahari founded GKI Batam. It was established in 1998. GKI Perniagaan with GKI Gunung Sahari GKI Muara Karang GKI Perumnas Tangerang GKI Samanhudi GKI Sutopo and GKI Wahid Hasyim initiated a new Church Post. It was in the Gading Serpong housing area.
