GKI Buaran

Gazing upon GKI Buaran, one can almost hear the echoes of its unique journey. GKI Buaran stands as a testament to the unifying power of faith. It’s a part of the Indonesian Christian Church Synod (Gereja Kristen Indonesia), known as Sinode GKI. This Presbyterian denomination, with headquarters in Jakarta, traces its origins back to the merger of three independent churches on August 26, 1988. GKI Buaran, nestled within Jakarta Timur, is more than just a building. It represents a vibrant community within the larger GKI Synod. The church’s history is interwoven with the broader narrative of Indonesian Christianity. The GKI Synod itself emerged from the union of the Indonesian Christian Church in West Java, Central Java, and East Java. These churches, each with their own missionary origins, came together in a remarkable display of unity. GKI Buaran reflects this spirit of togetherness. In 2007, GKI Buaran witnessed a special event, the ordination of Suhud Setyo Wardono. Over 500 people attended this significant occasion at Grha Wira Bhakti Universitas Dharma Persada. Wardono’s journey to the ministry was particularly compelling. He left a successful nine-year corporate career, even reaching the position of plant manager at a multinational company in India, to pursue theological studies at Universitas Duta Wacana. His ordination at GKI Buaran marked a new chapter not only for him, but for the church community as well. GKI Buaran is a living example of the GKI Synod’s structure. It falls under the Presbytery of Jakarta Timur, one of many presbyteries within the regional synod. This hierarchical system, from congregation to presbytery to regional synod, and ultimately to the Synod Council, ensures a connected and collaborative approach to church governance. GKI Buaran is a place where the past and present intertwine. The church’s story is not merely a historical account, but a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. It stands as a reminder of the diverse paths that lead to ministry and the strength found in unity.
