What’s more unexpected than a six-story-tall rubber duck? The Giant Rubber Duck, of course. It’s not a permanent fixture here in Dallas, but rather a migrating marvel. This massive inflatable has graced cities across the globe as part of an international tour, from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and even right here in Texas. The Giant Rubber Duck is the brainchild of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. He wasn’t simply trying to create a quirky spectacle. Hofman designed the duck to be a unifying symbol, a reminder of our shared childhood and the simple joys that connect us all. The duck’s journey has not always been smooth sailing. It’s been delayed, deflated, and even vandalized in some locations. Yet, the Giant Rubber Duck persists, bringing smiles to faces wherever it lands. Although originally scheduled for a visit to Fort Worth’s Trinity Park, eager North Texans had to wait a bit longer than expected to see this bathtub buddy. Rising coronavirus cases pushed the duck’s arrival back to October.
