Visible from I-95, the Giant Cow Mailbox stands as a quirky landmark. It’s not every day you see a mailbox shaped like a cow. This isn’t just any mailbox. It’s a testament to one man’s whimsical vision.
Let’s talk about Charles Keller, the creative mind behind this roadside attraction. He owns Keller’s Flea Market, where another giant cow statue grazes. He’s also a race car enthusiast. Keller combined his love for the unusual with his metalworking skills to bring this idea to life.
The Giant Cow Mailbox sits on Quacco Road, near Savannah. It is 16 feet long and towers 30 feet above the ground. Keller placed it in front of his Cow Farm. The farm spans about 250 acres and is home to around 75 head of cattle.
Keller initially planned to install it at his flea market. His wife, Cheri, suggested the county might not approve. Heeding her advice, he chose the farm location in the mid-90s.
One inch on a regulation mailbox equals one foot on this giant structure.
The Giant Cow Mailbox is more than just a quirky roadside attraction. It’s a conversation starter. Keller says he built it simply to make people laugh.
The mailbox has faced its share of challenges. There was even a time when a windstorm toppled it in January 2025. However, it was rebuilt, proving its resilience.
Interestingly, someone once asked if they could live inside the Giant Cow Mailbox. Keller found the request amusing.
As you stand before this colossal cow, consider the blend of artistry, humor, and rural charm. The Giant Cow Mailbox represents Savannah’s unique spirit. It embodies the unexpected delights that await around every corner.
