Gereja Kristen Pasundan

Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Jakarta, stands the Gereja Kristen Pasundan. This church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the Sundanese people and their faith. Gereja Kristen Pasundan, often called GKP, traces its roots back to November 14, 1934. The church emerged from the rich cultural landscape of West Java, specifically the Tatar Pasundan region. This area, predominantly inhabited by the Sundanese people, boasts a unique heritage intertwined with the traditions of the ancient Sunda Kingdom. Gereja Kristen Pasundan’s logo reflects this deep connection. The logo features a mountain vista, rice paddies, and coconut trees, all iconic elements of the Pasundan landscape. These images are encircled by the inscription “Gereja Kristen Pasundan” at the top and “Jesus Christ is the Light of the World” at the bottom. The rising sun, symbolizing God’s grace and life’s source, shines through the mountains. It signifies new beginnings and the eternal hope offered by the Gospel. The church’s establishment was a pivotal moment. Key figures like J. Iken, D. Abednego, and Tan Goan Tjong led the first Rad Ageng (Grand Assembly). Their leadership laid the foundation for a church that would grow to encompass numerous congregations and communities across West Java, Banten, and DKI Jakarta.
