Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia

Whispers of faith echo within the Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia. This church, nestled in the heart of Jakarta, has a story waiting to be unveiled. The Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia, formerly known as KINGMI (Kemah Injil Gereja Masehi Indonesia), traces its roots back to Makassar, South Sulawesi. Its story begins on February 10, 1928, with the arrival of Dr. R.A. Jaffray. Jaffray, a Canadian missionary who had spent 32 years in Southern China, first set foot in Balikpapan, Borneo. He began preaching the gospel, sowing the seeds for what would become the Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia. Jaffray envisioned a network of churches spreading across Indonesia. He saw Makassar as the strategic hub. In September 1930, he moved to Makassar, establishing the first “C&MA” or “Kemah Injil” center. His home at Jalan Daeng Tompo No. 8 became the headquarters for this burgeoning mission. From Makassar, the gospel spread, reaching from Sumatra in the west to Papua in the east. The Gereja Kemah Injil Indonesia’s growth is a testament to Jaffray’s vision. It is a church that has expanded its reach across numerous regions. These regions include Jawa-Sumatra, Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Timur, Kalimantan Utara, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi-Kepulauan Maluku, and Papua. Its headquarters now reside in Jakarta. The church has not forgotten its origins. The legacy of Dr. Jaffray, the missionary who dared to dream of a nation transformed by faith, continues to inspire.
