Have you ever heard of Sir George Grove? This blue plaque, right here on this building, tells you that he lived here. He was a remarkable man. Sir George Grove was a civil engineer. He was also an expert on music. Grove made sure the Crystal Palace concerts had detailed descriptions of the music, so people could understand what they were listening to. In fact, he was so passionate about music that he started a huge dictionary about it – Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians. This dictionary helped people all over the world understand more about music. He even went to Vienna to find lost music manuscripts. But his passions didn’t stop there. Sir George Grove loved the Bible and helped create a big dictionary for that too. He even visited Palestine and helped start the Palestine Exploration Fund. So next time you hear some great music, remember this blue plaque and the man who helped many people appreciate its beauty.
