Once upon a time two churches stood near each other. They were Trinity Presbyterian and Wilshire Presbyterian. Over time their memberships dwindled. Wanting to keep a Presbyterian church in the area they decided to merge. It was a pivotal moment for both congregations. After three years of planning Genesis Presbyterian Church was born in 1998.
Genesis Presbyterian Church chose the Wilshire location. It was the larger of the two original churches. The Trinity location was sold. This merger created a new life and hope for the future. To symbolize this Genesis Presbyterian Church adopted an interwoven cross.
Genesis Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church USA. It stands as a welcoming beacon in Austin. This church welcomes all persons regardless of background. It embraces diversity in every form. All colors. All orientations. All genders. All abilities. All nationalities. All languages. All statuses.
What do we believe here at Genesis Presbyterian Church? We believe in one God one Savior and one Holy Spirit. We consider the Bible as our guide. We strive to follow Jesus. We know we will mess up sometimes.
But at Genesis Presbyterian Church we believe in forgiveness and grace. These tenets guide our community. They shape our interactions. They inform our worship.
Speaking of worship it is central to spiritual life here. Questions are also welcome. Worship is traditional-ish. It is not too serious. We sing hymns. We pray prayers. We greet each other during the service. There is a sermon a conversation and a reflection time.
What should you wear to Genesis Presbyterian Church? Dress is casual-ish. Jeans are just fine. Dresses and dress shirts are too. Sometimes the pastor wears jeans. She is often barefoot.
