An exhibition of contemporary art inspired by lost rose windows. That’s what awaits us inside the Gemeindehaus Ev-Luth Gemeinde Blasewitz. This community center in Dresden’s Blasewitz district holds more than just meetings and events. It’s a vibrant hub showcasing local talent.
The Gemeindehaus Ev-Luth Gemeinde Blasewitz stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the community it serves. It is nestled within the Evangelisch-Lutherischen Kirchgemeinde Dresden-Blasewitz. This church community encompasses three districts east of Dresden. They are Blasewitz Striesen and Tolkewitz. Each with its own rich history and unique charm.
The Gemeindehaus itself is intimately connected to the nearby Heilig-Geist-Kirche. This church suffered damage during World War II. Its stunning rose windows were destroyed and later bricked up. The current exhibition inside the Gemeindehaus presents a modern interpretation of these lost windows. Artists Franziska and Sophia Hoffmann created eight pieces and a historical photo collage. Their work breathes new life into a piece of Blasewitz’s architectural heritage. A video presentation accompanies the display. It captures the atmosphere of a 2023 event held in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche. This event showcased the artists’ large-scale video projections. They filled the church nave with color and movement. Ralf Müller-Hoffmann’s atmospheric musical composition enhanced the experience.
The Gemeindehaus Ev-Luth Gemeinde Blasewitz is more than just a building. It’s a place where faith art and community intersect. It is a space where the past inspires the present. The building provides a glimpse into the resilience and creativity of the Blasewitz community. This community continues to thrive amidst the echoes of history. The exhibition runs until mid-March 2025. You can visit during office hours or alongside church services. This is your chance to experience the Gemeindehaus for yourself. Discover the remarkable story it tells. It’s a story woven into the fabric of Dresden’s rich cultural tapestry. It’s a story waiting to be uncovered.
