“Faith, Fairness, Family, Freedom, Future” is more than just a motto. It’s the heartbeat of Garden City. Founded in 1939 as Industrial City Gardens, Garden City was created to house workers for the new factories near Savannah.

Today, Garden City stands as a testament to industry and community. Garden City is located northwest of Savannah. It is part industrial, part residential. Garden City offers a unique blend of commerce and community.

As you stand here, imagine the bustling activity of the Georgia Ports Authority. Garden City hosts the largest ocean terminal of the Port of Savannah. This port is the flagship operation of the Georgia Ports Authority. The waterfront is a hub of activity. Numerous trucking and railway companies thrive here.

But Garden City is more than just industry. Did you know that Garden City has never collected property taxes as of 2010? This fact highlights the city’s unique approach to governance. The city operated under a mayor–council form of government until 2009. Then, it adopted a council-administrator style.

Let’s talk about education in Garden City. Three public schools serve the community. Garden City Elementary School, George A. Mercer Middle School, and Robert W. Groves High School. Groves High School is known as “the pride of the Westside”. It has a rich history dating back to 1958. Mercer Middle School was the first climate-controlled school in Georgia.

For recreation, Garden City offers five public parks. Bazemore Park has a baseball complex. Griffin Park features a playground. The Park at Sharon Park boasts playgrounds, a gazebo, a pond, and a hiking trail. Town Green provides an esthetic space with a fountain and benches. Volunteer Park serves as a commemorative space.

Garden City also has some interesting landmarks. The Air National Guard facility. Coastal State Prison. The Dotson House is the oldest residence in Garden City. It was built in 1850.
