Can you feel the pulse of Copenhagen’s art scene right here? We are standing in front of Galleri Bo Bjerggaard. It is a significant venue for contemporary art. Galleri Bo Bjerggaard was founded in 1999 by Morten Korsgaard, Britt Bjerggaard, and Bo Bjerggaard. It started in the center of Copenhagen. In 2007, the gallery relocated to a larger space in Vesterbro’s Meatpacking District. Now, it has moved to Sankt Knuds Vej in Frederiksberg. This move happened at the end of January 2025.
The gallery focuses on international contemporary art. The art comes from Europe and America. While painting is central, Galleri Bo Bjerggaard also showcases sculpture. Photography, video, and installations find a home here too.
Imagine walking into the Meatpacking District location. The expansive white walls were perfect. They provided a neutral backdrop. Visitors could get lost in large canvases. The space allowed for dramatic lighting. This created a contrasting feel. It was ideal for exhibiting sculpture and other mediums. The large space allowed two parallel exhibitions. It also provided room for the gallery’s inventory.
Galleri Bo Bjerggaard represents both Nordic and international artists. Among the Danish artists are Per Kirkby and Per Bak Jensen. You can also find Ivan Andersen, John Kørner, and Erik Steffensen. Big overseas names include Georg Baselitz and Sigmar Polke. Gerhard Richter, Jonathan Meese, and Jannis Kounellis are also featured.
Galleri Bo Bjerggaard participates in international art fairs. These fairs take place throughout Europe and North America. This gives visitors insight into homegrown and international artists.
For CHART 2024, the gallery presented a booth about the art of staging. Artists consider composition and subject matter. They craft visual narratives. These narratives connect viewers and artworks. The presentation included works by Ivan Andersen and Anna Bjerger. Emily Gernild, Per Bak Jensen, and Tal R were also featured. Eva Schlegel, Erwin Wurm, and Janaina Tschäpe were included. Peter Linde Busk, Jockum Nordström, and John Kørner rounded out the display.
Galleri Bo Bjerggaard also runs Ekely. Ekely is a curated shop. It offers prints and editions. Books and ceramics by gallery artists are available. Special projects by invited guests are also sold. The new location at Sankt Knudsvej embraces an intimate environment. It feels more like home. This is where art meets a personal touch. This gallery gives a vital insight into contemporary art.
