It’s a love letter to Lisbon, painted by the talented Portuguese artist, Violant, in September 2015. The wall was literally crumbling, requiring 50 kilograms of plaster to stabilize it before Violant could even begin. And speaking of beginnings, the mural’s story has an amusing anecdote. An 86-year-old resident, living just behind Gaia, wasn’t initially impressed. In fact, he tried to chase Violant away with his cane! But art, as they say, has a way of changing hearts. A few days later, the same resident was seen buying Violant a coffee, charmed perhaps by Gaia’s timeless beauty.
