Favaloro returned to Argentina after a decade at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States. At the Cleveland Clinic, he pioneered the coronary artery bypass graft, a procedure that revolutionized cardiac surgery. He brought this groundbreaking technique and a vision back to his homeland. The Fundación Favaloro was established as a non-profit organization, dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and providing exceptional care. The institution’s motto, “Advanced technology at the service of medical humanism,” encapsulates Favaloro’s philosophy. The Fundación Favaloro isn’t just a hospital. Tragically, in 2000, René Favaloro took his own life, burdened by the financial struggles of the foundation and the corruption he witnessed within the healthcare system.
