You stand right in front of it – the “Fugl med guldæble i næbbet” sculpture. This bronze bird, holding a golden apple in its beak, is a familiar sight for many Aarhus residents. The sculpture was inaugurated in 1973 by the talented artist Erik Heide. It was originally intended as a fountain. It even had a basin. But later, the basin was removed, and the fountain function ceased. It stood for many years, a silent sentinel, waiting for the water to flow again. Imagine children splashing around the fountain, their laughter echoing through the bustling Skt. Clemens Square. Today, you can only see the empty basin, but it still invites you to imagine the joy of the past.
