Did you ever hear of a trail named after royalty? High in the Rätikon mountain range, the Fürstensteig awaits. This isn’t just any mountain path. The Fürstensteig is a Liechtenstein classic, famous for its extremes and surprises. Our journey begins at Alp Gaflei, perched 1,400 meters above sea level. Imagine gazing out at the world from this vantage point. As we begin our ascent, green pastures and hardy mountain pines guide our way. The views become increasingly spectacular with every step, showcasing the beauty of Liechtenstein’s alpine landscape. The Fürstensteig is truly a unique experience. Certain sections, exposed to the elements, are equipped with wire ropes and railings for safety. These add a thrill to the hike, reminding us of the rugged terrain we’re traversing. At the Gaflei saddle, a breathtaking panorama unfolds. The majestic Drei Schwestern mountains rise in the distance, a testament to nature’s grandeur. Our path continues beneath the Schrofen peak, winding through a narrow gap. We then ascend a steep incline, passing below Helwangs peak, towards a landmark known as the Kamin, or “Chemi” (Chimney). From this point, the trail leads us past more mountain pines, gradually descending towards Bargälla saddle. Here, another stunning vista awaits. The entire Liechtenstein Alps stretch before us, their peaks and valleys creating a mesmerizing tapestry. From the Bargälla saddle, it’s a short, pleasant walk back to our starting point at Gaflei. A hike along the Fürstensteig is a journey you won’t soon forget.
