Two gigantic metallic pods stand before us. They gleam in the sunshine. These are the monumental sculptures known as Fruition. They mark the entrance to Royal Park and are the creation of artist Matthew Harding. Fruition was commissioned by the City of Melbourne in 2013 and has become a beloved landmark. The sculptures resemble seed pods, representing the potential for life and growth. But did you know that the steel used for the sculptures forms a protective layer of rust when exposed to the elements? This, known as corten steel, is not just a beautiful and durable material, but also symbolizes the symbiosis of industry and nature.
