Lost between Burg Rheindorf and Margarethenkirche, the Friedhof Graurheindorf invites contemplation. This is no ordinary cemetery. It holds stories etched in stone and whispers of Bonn’s past.

The Friedhof Graurheindorf wasn’t always here. The original cemetery became too small in 1842. It only held 120 people. So, the civil community of Bonn established this new site. The church received the old cemetery. Bonn acquired land on the Kirchgasse in return.

Note how the Friedhof Graurheindorf is divided. The old section stands apart. It is a small square. It measures 50 by 50 meters. This section is under historical preservation. Look for the 14 sandstone blocks. They depict scenes from Christ’s Passion. Each is numbered. Inscriptions clarify the images. The donors’ names are carved on the sides. These blocks tell a silent story.

Notice the central cross. It stands in the old section’s heart. Originally, it stood before the church. It was moved to the Friedhof Graurheindorf. Baker Kutter and his wife donated it in 1746. Today, the cross marks priests’ graves.

The Friedhof Graurheindorf covers 0.92 hectares. It’s a peaceful place now. But it speaks of strong religious beliefs. It also reflects a desire to be remembered. Some old family graves show wealth. They highlight the prosperity of villagers long ago.

The chapel dates back to the 1950s. The Friedhof Graurheindorf was expanded in the 1980s. This addition created a clear distinction between old and new.

Consider what these stones represent. They show faith, remembrance, and community. The Friedhof Graurheindorf offers a quiet reflection on life and time. It is a place where Bonn’s history rests peacefully.
