“Dorf des Friedrich” or village of Frederick. That’s quite a charming etymology for Friedersdorf, isn’t it? We’re standing in Friedersdorf, a part of Dresden with roots stretching back to 1378.

Friedersdorf sits north of Dresden’s city center. It is nestled in the Weixdorf area. Imagine this small part of the town as a place where history lives side-by-side with modern life.

Once, Friedersdorf was its own entity. But in 1879, it became part of Lausa. Since 1999, it officially belongs to Dresden. Friedersdorf may be small but it has kept its historic charm. Several old buildings still stand, telling tales of centuries past.

The village was established near the Lausenbach stream. This type of settlement is called a Waldhufendorf. The layout ensured each farm had access to the forest.

In 1556, Christoph von Carlowitz acquired an estate in Friedersdorf. He was already the owner of the Hermsdorf manor. By 1696, this estate held authority over Friedersdorf until the 19th century. The Sauerbusch forest nearby was part of the Hermsdorf manor.

Don’t imagine a bustling metropolis here. Friedersdorf offers a peaceful escape. Its history is interwoven with the surrounding areas of Lausa and Weixdorf. It is a reminder of Dresden’s diverse past.

If you look west of Friedersdorf’s heart, you’ll spot several ponds. These include the Upper and Lower Mittelteich, the Müllteich, and the Großteich. The Waldbad Weixdorf sits beside the Großteich.

Today, Friedersdorf continues to be a living piece of history within Dresden. People appreciate its mix of old buildings and modern life. Its story, though part of greater Dresden, remains distinct. It is a quiet testament to time’s passage.
