Look at the Friedensengel towering high above. It stands tall and proud on its platform, a monument to peace. This golden angel is the symbol of peace and a reminder of the 25 years of peace following the Franco-Prussian War. The Friedensengel was erected in 1899 in a park called Maximiliansanlagen. From its location, the statue has a magnificent view of the Prinzregentenstrasse, a street lined with majestic buildings. When the Angel of Peace was almost toppled from its column in 1981, it was removed and its wings were replaced. Since 1983, the angel stands with its wings proudly outstretched. You can reach the angel from a small fountain below, climbing the steps framed by four cherubs riding dolphins. The Friedensengel is not just a monument, it is a beacon of hope and a symbol of what is possible when we choose peace.
