“Soup or pasta?” That was the price of admission to a very special party. Today, we’re standing before the Fremont Baptist Church. It’s more than just a building. It’s a story etched in brick and community spirit.

The Fremont Baptist Church has deep roots. It goes all the way back to 1892. Imagine a time when Fremont was just finding its feet. Dynamic settlers arrived. They started businesses, schools, and churches. The Fremont Baptist Church was one of those churches.

Initially, the congregation met in unique places. They first gathered in an American Baptist Society Chapel Train Car. This rail car was named “Evangel”. It was parked near the Fremont Fire Station. Later, they rented storefronts. Eight pastors led the church in its early years.

In March 1900, under the leadership of Rev. Cairns, the congregation bought property. They began building a wooden structure. This building was dedicated on March 24, 1901. By 1909, church membership had grown significantly. It jumped from 28 to 145 members.

By 1924, the church had outgrown its wooden home. A new, larger building was needed. The old structure was torn down. Construction began on the current brick building. The present Fremont Baptist Church opened in December 1924.

The Fremont Baptist Church has always been active in the community. The Family Works Food Bank started here. It was originally known as the Fremont Food Bank. Church members volunteered their time. Even today, the church supports the food bank.

Every year at the Fremont Fair, Fremont Baptist Church hosts the Orange Booth. They give out free coffee and lemonade. Donations support the Family Works Food Bank. This tradition has continued for decades.

In 2024, the Fremont Baptist Church celebrated the hundredth anniversary of its current building. The celebration was held on December 7th. Attendees brought canned goods for the food bank. Historic photos were on display. Tours showed off the pipe organ.

Fremont Baptist Church is an active member of several organizations. These include the Evergreen Baptist Association, American Baptist Churches USA, and The Church Council of Greater Seattle. It remains a beacon of hope. Fremont Baptist Church continues to serve and uplift the community.
