“Christian values for the next generation.” That’s the motto of the Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden. It stands as a beacon of faith-based education in the Tolkewitz/Seidnitz-Nord district.
The Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden was founded in 1993. It started as a Grundschule in Laubegast. The school faced a major setback in 2002. The Elbe River flooded Dresden. The flood heavily damaged the school. Capacity issues arose due to the school’s growth. In 2003, the Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden moved. It relocated to Hausdorfer Straße 4. A significant expansion occurred in 2006. A Schulhort and Oberschule were added. Since 2014, classes have been held in a new building. It is still at the same location.
A gymnasium branch was planned in 2017. It was meant for the adjacent property on Altenberger Straße 83. Usage questions from city administration delayed this project initially. Construction finally began in 2023. The Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden offered 75 new gymnasium places at the start of the 2023/24 school year. The new students are temporarily housed. They are in an interim building on the school grounds for two years. The new school building should be completed by the start of the 2025/26 school year. It will accommodate 600 students.
The Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden emphasizes Christian values. It also focuses on education and social skills. A daily devotion is part of the school routine. The school includes a kindergarten, a Schulhort, a Grundschule, an Oberschule and a Gymnasium.
The Freie Evangelische Schule Dresden provides many facilities. These include a sports hall. It can be divided in half. There is also a racetrack, a large multi-purpose room and a music room. A football cage is available too. It is used for sports lessons. Oberschule and Grundschule students use it during breaks as well.
