Freedom Baptist Church

The Freedom Baptist Church in Dallas is a beacon of faith and tradition. The church stands as a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of a congregation that has weathered storms and celebrated triumphs. The story of the church began on a Monday night, May 14, 1974. It was a night filled with heavy burdens and a yearning for solace. A small group of believers, disheartened and disillusioned, gathered at Bro. & Sis. Don E. King’s home. They prayed for strength and guidance. In that moment, the seeds of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church were sown. Two spiritual twins were born: the church itself and Rev. M.T. Flemmings, its destined leader. The church, named for its freedom of worship and expression, found its first home in Mrs. O.M. Bowman’s Dallas residence. It grew and blossomed, celebrating its first wedding and high school graduation. The church journeyed through various temporary locations, from Alta Mesa to the Peoples El Shaddai Village. Through it all, it carried its message of hope and salvation. Finally, settling at 9021 So R.L. Thornton Frwy, Freedom Baptist Church thrived. There, it witnessed a surge in members, celebrated the birth of its first son in the ministry, Rev. Derrick King, and saw its first High School-College graduate, Felecia Mason, and its first Masters Degree recipient, Hessie Goldsmith. Though the church faced challenges, its faith remained unshakable. It stood strong, a testament to the spirit of its congregation. On June 17, 1979, Freedom Baptist Church started a new chapter in its history, moving to its current location at 3715 S. Westmoreland. The congregation rejoiced in its new home, a haven for worship and spiritual growth. This relocation marked the beginning of a new era of prosperity for Freedom Baptist Church, a testament to the unwavering faith of its founders and its enduring legacy in Dallas.
