Did you know that this peaceful oasis, Frank Banfield Park, wasn’t always a park? It emerged from the bustling heart of old London in the 1970s. Frank Banfield Park was born from the remnants of Elmdale and Playfair Streets after a major housing clearance. Initially called Chancellors Park, it was later renamed in 1975 to honour the late Frank Banfield, a dedicated public servant and former Mayor of Fulham. He sadly passed away in 1970. The park expanded in the late 70s, stretching across Distillery Lane to encompass even more green space. Today, Frank Banfield Park stands as a testament to the ever-evolving urban landscape of London. It’s a place where residents and visitors alike can find respite from the city’s vibrant energy, a tranquil reminder of nature’s resilience amidst the urban jungle.
