Time slipped away. The Father Damien Centre stands before you. Its story unfolds not just in bricks and mortar but in the echoes of faith hope and resilience.

This unassuming building is far more than a community center. It’s an extension of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Its very existence is intrinsically linked to the inspiring legacy of Saint Damien of Molokai. A priest who dedicated his life to caring for lepers. A man whose selfless devotion resonates through the heart of this place.

The Blessed Sacrament Church itself has a rich history. Built in 1965 it served a burgeoning Catholic community in Queenstown. Construction wasn’t easy. Funds were scarce. The priests resourceful and determined organized fundraisers including a variety show and even enlisted the help of circuses.

Before the main church was complete Damien Hall opened in 1963. It was named after Saint Damien a fitting tribute considering the centre’s later role. This hall initially served as a temporary place of worship and a home for the priests.

As the parish flourished so did the need for more space. The Damien Centre opened in 1982. It expanded to provide rooms for classes and community gatherings. In 2007 it underwent a major renovation. This was partly driven by the Ministry of Education’s request for smaller kindergarten classes. It was renamed the Father Damien Centre.

Today the centre continues to thrive. It offers programs for the community. Many activities are not solely for Catholics. The annual Christmas carnival a testament to its inclusive spirit. People come together sharing food and fun.

The Father Damien Centre is more than just a building. It is a living testament to faith charity and community spirit. It carries the torch of Saint Damien’s unwavering dedication. A shining beacon in the heart of Singapore. Reflect on its story and let its spirit inspire you.
