Established in 1851 Forty Hill CofE Primary School initially operated as Jesus Chapel National School Bulls Cross. It began as a humble single-room structure. A wooden partition separated the space. The master’s house was attached. The entire cost including architectural and legal fees a well and a pump totalled £826 18s 5d. Trinity College Cambridge generously donated the land. The school’s growth was steady. Two classrooms were added in 1870 for older pupils. An infant department was built in 1880. As student numbers fluctuated the two senior classrooms were converted into an assembly hall.
Further expansion happened in 1958. Three classrooms interior toilets an office boiler room and a storeroom were added. In 1989 the head teacher’s house integrated into the school. It became an administrative center. To accommodate an increasing student population the hall was partitioned in 1991. This created a classroom and a resource room. A new assembly hall gymnasium with a kitchen and PE storage was completed in June 1993.
More additions followed. A junior classroom resource room library and toilets were built by August 1994. The infant classrooms expanded. An infant resource room was finished by February 1995. A full kitchen was installed in 2008. A hall extension and another classroom were added in September 2011. Recent improvements include an Ark-shaped play space and a school allotment. Children cultivate the allotment and use its produce in school lunches. A prayer garden a children’s kitchen and playground resurfacing modernized the school. Forty Hill CofE Primary School stands as a testament to continuous growth and adaptation. It provides a strong foundation for its students. It’s a place where the past and present beautifully intertwine.
