Before us stands Forney Avenue Church a testament to faith and resilience. Its story isn’t confined to these walls. It stretches back over a century a journey marked by fire dedication and unwavering belief. Forney Avenue Church wasn’t always here. It began modestly in 1868. Believers met in humble schoolhouses near Mustang Creek. Their devotion laid the foundation for this grand structure.

In 1882 a small congregation remodeled a frame building. This served as their sanctuary for years. Tragedy struck in 1918. Lightning ignited the building reducing it to ashes. The congregation didn’t falter. Undeterred they rebuilt.

The second Forney Avenue Church building dedicated in 1919 stood for fifty years. This building along with additions fulfilled the community’s spiritual needs. Growth demanded more space. In 1972 a new church was built in the downtown area. This again showed the expansion of their community and influence.

The church continued to grow. In August 1996 a vote was taken to relocate. A spacious 28-acre site on College Street was chosen. Phase 1A of the building project saw the first service in the new building on June 24 2001. Both campuses downtown and east were initially used. Phase 1B followed allowing all activities to consolidate in one location.

The Lord’s blessings were abundant. The church experienced remarkable growth. Thousands of new converts joined since 1994. This rapid expansion led to further building. In August 2017 ground was broken for a new worship and gymnasium facility. This project called Higher Ground aimed to serve the growing community. The first full worship services were held in the new facility on April 7 2019. On May 5 2019 the new multi-purpose facility was dedicated. This momentous occasion also celebrated 150 years of ministry. Forney Avenue Church stands as a beacon of faith a symbol of perseverance and a testament to the enduring power of community. Its story is an inspiration. It is a living legacy built on the unwavering faith of generations.
