In the year 2001, a new chapter began just two blocks south of here, at 93rd Street. A brand new Metra station, shiny and modern, opened its doors. This new station spelled the end of an era for the Former 91st Street Station. For decades, the Former 91st Street Station stood as a bustling hub for the South Chicago neighborhood. It was a witness to history, surviving even the fiery aftermath of the Chicago Bulls’ 1991 NBA Finals victory. Sadly, after years of service, the station was deemed outdated. The Former 91st Street Station, once a symbol of connection and community, was closed. Although the echoes of departing trains and the hurried footsteps of commuters have faded, its legacy endures. The Former 91st Street Station may be gone, but it is not forgotten. It serves as a reminder of the ever-changing landscape of a city and the stories etched into its very foundation.
