Forest Green Branch Library

Nestled amidst the trees, the Forest Green Branch Library has quite the story to tell. It’s a much-loved institution here in the Hamilton Park and Stults Road neighborhoods. Originally a much smaller building on Forest Lane, the Forest Green Branch Library was built in 1976. It was the smallest branch in the entire Dallas Public Library system. But the community’s need for a larger, more modern space was evident. A champion for this cause emerged: Karen Blumenthal. A devoted library supporter and local resident, she understood the vital role a vibrant library could play in the community. Sadly, she passed away last year. But her legacy lives on in the very bricks and mortar of this building. Through her tireless efforts and the community’s unwavering support, the dream of a new library began to take shape. The new Forest Green Branch Library opened its doors on September 25th, 2021, on Greenville Avenue, a short walk from its original location. This new building is a testament to the power of community vision and dedication. The new building is more than double the size of the old one, boasting 10,000 additional square feet. It stands on a beautiful 2.66-acre lot, surrounded by trees. The Forest Green Branch Library provides a welcoming space for everyone. Inside, you’ll find flexible classroom spaces, enhanced meeting rooms, small conference rooms, and 20 public computers. There’s even an outdoor area perfect for community gatherings. Thanks to generous donations of over $100,000 through the Friends of the Dallas Public Library, the Forest Green Branch Library is equipped with special technology, furniture, and equipment to promote early literacy and STEM learning. This funding is a tribute to Karen Blumenthal, who was instrumental in making this new library a reality. Her influence is woven into the fabric of this place. The grand opening was a true celebration, featuring remarks from Mayor Eric Johnson and Councilmember Adam McGough, live music, crafts, and tours of the new space. It was a joyous occasion, marking a new chapter for the Forest Green Branch Library and the community it serves. The $9.5 million project, encompassing construction, design, and land acquisition, was funded by the 2006 and 2017 bond programs. This investment reflects the city’s commitment to providing valuable resources and fostering a love of learning.
