“Chicago’s Finest Community”. That’s how residents often describe Forest Glen Park’s neighborhood. It’s a charming community of about 550 residences on the far Northwest side of Chicago. Forest Glen Park is nestled within a neighborhood steeped in history. It all began with a Civil War hero, Captain William Hazelton of the 1st Cavalry Division. He chose this peaceful place to build his home. That very home still stands today, a testament to the area’s enduring spirit. Captain Hazelton wasn’t content with just building a home. He wanted to foster a sense of community. He started a Sunday School that blossomed into the First Congregational Church of Forest Glen. He also built the Glen’s first barn where Lawler and Elston streets now intersect. As you stroll through Forest Glen Park, take a moment to appreciate the legacy of Captain Hazelton. His vision helped shape this unique community into the “Chicago’s Finest Community” it’s known as today.
