Opened in February 1966 Forest Gate Community School stands proudly. It replaced the older Whitehall Place School. Sir F Elwyn Jones a Labour MP opened the school. Initially called Forest Gate County Secondary School it later became a community school. In 2016 Forest Gate Community School converted to academy status. The Community Schools Trust now sponsors the school.

Forest Gate Community School has a rich history. Its journey reflects the changing educational landscape of London. The school underwent a significant £15 million remodelling in 2011. This was part of Newham’s Building Schools for the Future Programme. Improvements included a new sports hall an open plan breakout space and a new lift and staircase. A fitness suite is also available to the public outside school hours.

Further development took place in 2020. This coincided with expansion to accommodate more students. New additions included a 3G pitch an amenities deck a new dining hall classrooms and a multi-use games area. Forest Gate Community School consistently achieves high academic results. It’s ranked among the top 50 schools nationally for GCSE progress. Disadvantaged students also significantly exceed national averages. The school boasts the best Progress 8 score in Newham. In 2020 it was named School of the Year by World Class Schools. The school runs a scholarship programme. This prestigious programme helps students gain entry to private schools. Several students have secured scholarships to prestigious institutions like Eton College and Westminster School.
