A single asymmetrical tower pierces the sky. That’s the Föltamadott Krisztus-templom. Its unique silhouette instantly catches the eye. This isn’t just any church. This is a story etched in stone and glass a testament to resilience and faith.

The Föltamadott Krisztus-templom or Church of the Risen Christ stands as a symbol of hope. It was built primarily for families resettled from Transylvania after the First World War. They sought refuge and solace here. The church’s design echoes the Transylvanian architectural style a subtle nod to their origins. Imagine the hardships they faced the journey to a new life. This church became their anchor.

Its construction wasn’t without its challenges. The Föltamadott Krisztus-templom endured nine bombing raids during World War II. Yet the community rallied. They rebuilt it in just over a year and a half. A truly remarkable feat showcasing the unwavering spirit of its congregation. The original large bell was lost during the war. It wasn’t recovered until 1958. The replacement a 280 kg bell was consecrated by the then-Archdiocesan Vicar General Lajos Peisz.

The church’s exterior is adorned with two marble reliefs. One depicts the Baptism of Jesus the other his Descent from the Cross. These scenes serve as powerful reminders of faith and sacrifice. The church’s interior is equally captivating. The high altar features a statue of the Risen Christ flanked by statues of Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary. The stained-glass windows created by József Palka bear the names of the church’s donors. They are a beautiful and lasting tribute to their generosity. The windows in the sanctuary showcase the figures of Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus. Other windows highlight several Hungarian saints such as Saint Elizabeth Saint Margaret and Saint Emeric as well as Saint Martin Saint Michael and cathedral images from separated territories.

Outside the Föltamadott Krisztus-templom stands a statue of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. It was placed there in 1931 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of her death. This too speaks volumes about the community’s devotion and heritage. The church also underwent a major renovation in 2006. Modernizations included roof repairs and upgraded heating systems. Even today a rose group and a charity are active within its walls.

The Föltamadott Krisztus-templom isn’t merely a building. It’s a living testament to faith resilience and the enduring spirit of a community. It’s a story waiting to be discovered. A story that echoes through the ages. A story of survival rebuilding and unwavering devotion. Stand here a moment and let its message touch you.
