A mental state. That is what Flow Gallery aims to embody. Founded in 1999 by Yvonna Demczynska, Flow Gallery resides in the heart of Notting Hill, London. It is more than just a gallery.

Flow Gallery is about energized focus. It is full involvement. It is enjoyment in the process of activity. The gallery is characterized by complete absorption in what one does.

Yvonna Demczynska curates contemporary craft makers. She works closely with craftspeople. These relationships are meaningful. She knows each object’s provenance. Flow loves the handmade, unusual, and personal. The gallery shows pieces you will cherish. It builds upon passing loved items through family.

For twenty years, Flow Gallery celebrated craft. In 2019, Yvonna Demczynska worked with collectors and artists. Together they created a book. This book celebrates the life and history of objects exhibited at Flow Gallery. It features collectors with their craft collections. These are pieces acquired from Flow. The book also features artists in their studios.

Originally, Flow Gallery curated six exhibitions each year. Yvonna Demczynska established touring and pop-up exhibitions across the world. The need for a large permanent space diminished. She wanted to move closer to the gallery.

A live-work solution was conceived. The existing gallery became a home. Part of the space remained for exhibitions, by invitation only. After a difficult planning process for this Grade II listed structure, the solution was excavation. The main space was excavated about one meter. This allowed the insertion of a mezzanine floor. Living space was created at lower ground. Bedroom space was above. A narrow light well to the rear gives natural daylight.

The house and gallery merged into one. It is a salon. The owner exhibits and enjoys her wares. All while living in the heart of London.

John Pardey Architects designed the space. The area is 130 square meters. The project was completed in 2015. James Morris captured the house in photographs. Materials used include VM Zinc roofing and Tyvek membrane. RIW waterproofing and Keller glazing are also featured.

Currently, Flow Gallery showcases “Light Embodied”. This is a solo show by Edmond Byrne from January 23rd to March 1st, 2025. It is a showcase of miniature wooden houses.

Metal artist Francisca Onumah shares her silver journeys. Flow Gallery continues to evolve. It remains a destination for exquisite international and British craft.
