Florida Oeste’s story begins with a simple railway stop. In 1907 the Códoba Central Railway laid tracks here. The stop was first a nameless spot informally called “La Trocha”.
Then came Narciso Agüero & Cía. In 1913 the company paved San Martín Avenue. They put up a large sign during the works. Locals began calling the station “Agüero” because of it. By 1920 the old stop was replaced. A proper building and sheds were built. Residents requested the station be officially named Florida. Thus Florida Oeste began to grow.
The railway attracted families and businesses. They sold goods to farmers and railway workers. Florida Oeste developed rapidly. New transportation options appeared. Buses from Fano and Boraso companies started operating in 1922 and 1925.
Sports clubs also emerged. The American Football Club formed in 1921. It later became the Florida Football Club in 1934. Unión Florida was founded in 1929. The Asociación de Fomento Vecinal joined Florida Football. Together they created the Florida Club.
The 1930s saw a surge in factories in Florida Oeste. La Hidrófila a textile factory and 3M set up shop. Editorial Abril Refinerías de Maíz Casa Sudamericana and Granix also came.
Schools like Mariano Moreno n° 5 established in 1908 shaped young minds. José Mármol n° 14 founded in 1926 and Lucas Azcuaga n° 33 in 1956 followed. The first church Parroquia Santa María Magdalena opened in 1963.
The Santa Rosa Hospital and Maternity opened in 1944. It became an important health center in Vicente López. Originally a maternity hospital it expanded over time.
In 2013 the Unidad de Respuesta Inmediata Ramóm Carrillo opened. It provides emergency care dentistry pediatrics and more.
Florida Oeste is also known for its sports clubs. Colegiales is the most famous. Founded in 1908 the club played in Argentina’s top division in the 1920s. In 1948 Colegiales moved to Antonio Malaver and Gervasio Posadas streets.
