“Best-kept secret” is how some describe it. Tagalag Fishing Village is a unique place. It is located in Valenzuela, Metro Manila. This fishing village offers a peaceful escape from the city.

Tagalag’s history is interesting. The area was once a large rice field. A typhoon in the 1970s caused major flooding. The floods didn’t subside. The area transformed into a fishing site. Fish were attracted from the Polo, Meycauayan, and Colong rivers.

The name Tagalag comes from “taga” meaning belonging and “alog” meaning a pool of water. This reflects the area’s history of flooding. It is also known as Taga-Ilog. This means “from the river”.

The Tagalag Fishing Village was formally opened on February 15, 2020. It aims to preserve the fishing site. A 1300-meter fenced boardwalk was built. It features light posts and statues of fish.

You can enjoy various activities here. Jog on the boardwalk. Try recreational fishing. Learn line fishing. Watch birds. Go boating or enjoy a photowalk. You can even watch the sunset. Migratory birds can be seen here too.

Tilapia, bangus, and hito are some fish you might catch. The community maintains tourism standards. Park rangers enforce rules. This ensures cleanliness and peace.

The Valenzuela boardwalk is a conversion of a flood dike into a walkway. It includes a bike trail. The boardwalk stretches through Barangays Coloong, Tagalag, and Wawang Polo.

Tagalag celebrates a fiesta every May 10. A fishing contest is held.

If you want to eat, try Tata Celo restaurant. It is known for affordable food.

Tagalag Fishing Village was recognized at the 2021 Galing Pook Awards. It was among the Top 10 Outstanding Local Governance Programs.

Tagalag Fishing Village is more than just a place to catch fish. It’s a place to relax. It’s a place to connect with nature. It is a testament to Valenzuela’s hidden gems.
