Many anglers favor smaller, quieter lakes. Fish Lake fits the bill perfectly. It avoids heavy boat traffic. Kayak anglers especially appreciate its calm waters and the variety of fish it holds.
“Most have well-maintained boat landings, great water quality and get marginal fishing pressure due to their size. Most big-boat anglers like big water. Kayak anglers appreciate the benefits of a small lake,” says Tim Lesmeister.
What can you catch in Fish Lake? You will find bass, pike, and panfish. These species are pretty characteristic of Minneapolis Northwest lakes in general.
Thinking of casting a line? There is a city-owned boat access point. It’s located on the east end of Fish Lake. From Pilot Knob Road, turn east onto Crestridge Lane. Then, turn right which is south onto Denmark Avenue. The access is on the right. Be aware that this access is small. It may not be suitable for larger boats.
Shore fishing more your style? Fish Lake has you covered. There’s a fishing pier on the north shore. From the boat access, follow the path west to reach the pier.
In Fish Lake, Northern Pike are above average in abundance. They are also average in size. Largemouth Bass are below average in abundance. They are smaller than average in size. Bluegill and Crappie are average in abundance. They are also smaller than average in size. Bullhead species are above average in abundance. They are smaller than average in size.
The city monitors Fish Lake’s winter oxygen levels. They operate a winter aeration system, as needed. This ensures the fish can survive the colder months.
