It commemorates a church woven into the very fabric of Forney’s history. The First Presbyterian Church of Forney wasn’t always one entity. It began as two separate congregations. Before Forney was even called Forney, the area was known as Brooklyn. In 1872, the Brooklyn Church of the Presbytery of Bacon of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church was organized. Later, in 1883, the Forney Presbyterian Church U.S. (Southern) was established. This second church built a sanctuary at the intersection of Bois D’Arc and Brooks Street. The year 1919 marked a turning point. These two congregations merged, becoming the First Presbyterian Church of Forney. A new red brick structure was dedicated on the same site in 1925. This building remains a landmark near downtown Forney. The church continued to thrive in this location until 2006. Under the leadership of Rev. Kathy Collier, the church relocated to FM 1641 near Henderson Elementary School. The original building on Bois D’Arc was sold and is still used by another congregation today. The First Presbyterian Church of Forney Plaque stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of this community and its commitment to faith.
