In 2001, a new chapter unfolded in the story of First Corinthians Baptist Church. The congregation, led by Pastor Eugene Roberson, marched from North Chicago Community High School to their new $2.2 million edifice. This marked the culmination of Pastor Roberson’s vision for a new sanctuary, a beacon of faith in North Chicago. First Corinthians Baptist Church, founded in 1928, has long been a pillar of the community. Its history is interwoven with the growth and spiritual development of its congregation.

Pastor Roberson, a man of deep faith and dedication, became the shepherd of First Corinthians in 1994. Under his leadership, the church experienced an incredible surge in membership and spiritual growth. His vision extended beyond the church walls. He saw the need to empower individuals and families through education and community outreach.

His efforts resulted in the establishment of various programs. These included a back-to-school backpack giveaway, an annual Christmas food basket program, and a weekly soup kitchen. Pastor Roberson’s commitment to his calling earned him recognition beyond the church. He was honored with the distinguished Harambee Award of Excellence from the College of Lake County. He also had the distinction of being the first African American in Lake County to open a session of Congress.

Pastor Roberson’s inspiring leadership saw First Corinthians Baptist Church pay off its mortgage in a mere ten years. This achievement was celebrated with a Deed Burning Ceremony in 2011, marking a testament to their collective faith and commitment. First Corinthians Baptist Church stands as more than just a place of worship. It embodies the spirit of community, resilience, and unwavering faith, a legacy tirelessly built by its devoted pastor and congregation.
