Why would a plant need a hospital, you might wonder? Well, at Finca Canarias Aloe Vera in Fuerteventura, they take their aloe very seriously. So seriously, in fact, that their aloe has been chosen to collaborate with the Doctor Negrín Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the Canary Islands. This isn’t about sick plants, though. It’s about the incredible healing properties of the aloe vera grown here. Finca Canarias Aloe Vera is a small family business, dedicated to the ecological cultivation of aloe vera for two generations. Their plantations in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are home to around 30,000 adult aloe vera plants, specifically the Aloe Barbadensis Miller variety. These plants range from 10 to 30 years old, quietly growing in the volcanic soil under the Canarian sun. The location, with its unique combination of volcanic earth, sea air, and consistent temperatures, creates what’s considered ideal conditions for growing high-quality aloe vera. At Finca Canarias Aloe Vera, everything is done by hand, from planting and harvesting to packaging and recycling. They adhere to the natural, chemical-free farming methods of their grandparents. This commitment to tradition and quality is reflected in their aloe, which boasts an impressive 23.38% Acemannan, a key polysaccharide believed to contribute to aloe’s benefits. This is nearly three times the amount found in aloe plants grown elsewhere. They even conduct all processing on-site. The leaves are carefully harvested, washed with food-grade soap, and trimmed with ceramic and plastic tools to avoid oxidation from metal. The pulp is extracted manually with plastic spatulas, pressed cold, and then enhanced with natural preservatives like vitamins C and E from lemons. This dedication to purity results in a product that is 99.38% pure aloe vera, as close as you can get to the fresh-cut leaf. Finca Canarias Aloe Vera demonstrates that quality, not quantity, is their guiding principle. They harvest only what they need to meet demand, ensuring their products are always fresh. So, while the aloe plants themselves might not need a hospital, their exceptional quality has earned them a place alongside the best medical care in the Canary Islands.
